I LOVE birthday’s, especially mine, it is my favourite day of the year! Usually every year for my birthday it is a free for all in regards to food, in my mind it has always been my perfect excuse to indulge to excess, stop the ‘diet’ and go nuts! I don’t do that anymore, even on my birthday. Not to say that I did not indulge on my birthday because I did, just in a different way from how I have for the 34 birthdays before this one. I didn’t eat myself silly, instead I enjoyed great company, oysters, a little champagne, a beautiful salad and even went on a spur of the moment joy flight.
We went to a small Island that is located in the Gold Coast Broadwater, which is about a 20 minute boat ride from where I live. I wanted to have a birthday celebration where the kids and adults could enjoy a day together. The kids had a wonderful time playing in the sand and water while the adults chilled on the beach, before we moved up to the island cafe for lunch.
For lunch I enjoyed the most amazing fresh oysters as an entree and a thai chicken salad as a main. The food was so beautiful and fresh, with zesty thai flavours. Just as we were finishing lunch a local seaplane pilot offered to take us up for a flight. I jumped at the chance to see the Gold Coast from the sky. WOW, it was amazing and such a fun experience to share with a couple of my girl friends.
On the Island there is a range of Australian wild life, including Goanna Lizards and Wallabies. The wildlife are quite use to humans, so we could get up close and personal. This cute little roo spent the day hanging out on the beach with us.
After I returned from the joy flight, to my surprise Cameron had arranged a beautiful HUGE birthday cake. It was lovely and even had my name written on the top out of icing. I thought it was really sweet because Cameron said to me “I knew you wouldn’t eat it, but I still wanted to get you one.” I love the whole blowing out candles and everyone singing happy birthday. All the kids and the cake loving adults demolished the cake. Just because I am not eating traditional cake ingredients myself does not mean that everyone else can’t enjoy some.
I really enjoyed my birthday this year and for the first time ever I am not thinking about the diet that I have to start on Monday… that is the past!
