On my recent visit to New Zealand, I was fortunate enough to take a little time out for myself at Te Hine Ruru Retreat, which is only 3 hours North of Auckland by car. From the moment you turn into the magical native bush driveway of Te Hine Ruru Retreat, you know that in moments you will be transported to a world of pure NZ luxury! I am glad I took that time out to join the retreat because after just a short time there I was totally relax and and immersed in the loveliness of the retreat.
Cushula has created the retreat because of her passion for mindfulness, yoga and healthy living. You can feel that passion everywhere you look. The property is a five star luxury retreat which is surrounded by 40 acres of native bush and set on it’s own beach . There are options for kayaking, laying on the beach and swimming in the warmer months or in winter you can cozy up next to the gorgeous fire with a cup of tea and enjoy the tranquil surrounds. I enjoyed this beautiful place with my mum, which was a really special way to spend quality time together.
The accommodation is the most gorgeous private house on the beach, with views out at a few yachts bobbing around in the bay and over to Paihia. It is literally a few steps over the lawn onto the beach from the bedrooms or lounge. The beds are so yummy, you just sink in and never want to leave. The rooms, bathrooms and fittings are pure luxury, with lovely linen and little homely touches.
In the afternoon after arriving at the retreat mum and I were whisked off to have massages in the yoga studio. The studio is in a beautiful boat shed style building set on the hill over looking the bay. Again just breath taking luxury and views! The massage I received was so lovely, I had not felt that relaxed and taken care of for ages.
In the morning we met with Cushla for our yoga session in the studio. I have never experienced yoga before but I have always wanted to try. Cushla is the perfect yoga teacher for experienced yogi’s or beginners like myself. She lead my mum and I through a yoga session in such a loving and gentle way. I am inspired to make yoga part of my life after spending this time at Te Hine Ruru Retreat.
The food at the retreat is lovingly prepared by Cushla and her team. Delicious vegetarian breakfasts and dinners are provided to support the detoxing and mindful environment that you are in for the weekend. Cushla made us some gorgeous little raw treats for after dinner, which I loved! This retreat would be the perfect start or refresher to a your real food lifestyle.
If you want to take some ‘you’ time and detox your mind and body, I can recommend that this is the place to do it. Cushla will lovingly guide you on your journey for the weekend and you will leave the retreat feeling like a improved version of yourself. You don’t need to be a yogi to enjoy your stay at Te Hine Ruru Retreat, you may be like me and just need a weekend escape where it is all about you!
The dates for the retreat for the rest of the year are:
– Sept 16-18
– Oct 14-16
– Nov 11-13
Or if a group of people want to come together, Cushla can arrange that with you too. I think that it would be perfect for bridal parties (who would prefer something luxury and quiet) or a pamper weekend away with your girl friends.
